Personal Learning Networks were an established part of teacher practice long before the invention of the internet. Originally, they were your family and friends, maybe other educators you worked with. The sharing part was happening face to face, in the office, staff room, playground. Today, PLNs can include tons of different communities – social networking. Online and global interactive part really makes it special and endless....

What is the relationship between self-direction, self-efficacy, self-reflection and the maintenance of a PLN? How to encourage self-motivation in learners? I have tried to capture this process through three key taxonomies.

Setting up and maintaining my PLN is voluntary and its driven by me. I am taking initiative in my learning, challenge myself with new technology and the new ways of thinking. I have to set up goals for my self and act upon them. Ask questions if in doubt and reflect. I am in control.

Have you started working on your PLN? Can you share it?
